Review: 2001’s ‘Frailty’ is the Anti-Stephen King Movie
The special features include audio commentaries with director Bill Paxton and writer Brent Hanley, as well as another commentary with producer David Kirschner, editor Arnold Glassman, and composer Brian Tyler. There are also featurettes about the making of the film, deleted scenes with optional director commentary, storyboards, a photo gallery, and TV spots. Additional content includes the “Anatomy of a Scene” featurette from the Sundance Channel and more stories from the set.

Frailty is Bill Paxton’s first film as a director. He also stars in the movie alongside Matthew McConaughey and Powers Boothe. The story is about the FBI’s search for a serial killer known as “God’s Hands.” The killer terrorized a small Texas community. The case takes a turn when Fenton Meiks, played by McConaughey, tells the FBI he knows who the killer is and where the bodies are buried. Fenton explains that his father believed he was ordered by God in a vision to kill evil people, and he made his sons help him do it.
The movie’s main theme is that in this universe, God really does appear in visions and orders His servants to kill evil people. The film explores how these events test the minds and souls of the characters. This is religious horror done right.
When it was released in 2002, Frailty made $17.4 million worldwide, with $13.1 million from the United States and Canada. Its budget was $11 million. The film did not make a lot of money but later became a cult favorite. It has a 75% critics score and a 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Physical media is king for fans who want to own this film. The new steelbook is packed with features and is a strong addition to any collection123.
Synopsis from the film:
“Years after the murders, Fenton Meiks (Matthew McConaughey) walks into an FBI office with a shocking revelation: he not only knows who the killer is, but where the bodies are buried. Fenton recounts how his father (Paxton) received an angelic vision commanding the destruction of demons in human form, and enlisted Fenton and his brother, Adam, to aid in the divine purge. What the boys witnessed tested the limits of their minds and souls, fusing family, retribution, and redemption in horrifying, unsettling ways.”
