Actor Bruce Campbell, best known for his role in Evil Dead, revealed Monday that he has been diagnosed with cancer. The 67-year-old called the illness “treatable,” saying he plans to focus on his recovery before returning to work.

Campbell shared the news in a post on X and Instagram, describing the diagnosis as a “health opportunity” and assuring fans he remains optimistic. He did not specify the type of cancer but said treatment will take priority over professional commitments for now. “Work needs to take a back seat to treatment,” Campbell wrote, adding that his goal is to regain strength over the summer.

The actor said he hopes to be healthy enough to tour this fall with his new film Ernie & Emma, which he directed, wrote, and stars in. The project also features Cerina Vincent, Eric Martin Reed, and longtime collaborator Ted Raimi. Campbell noted that he is canceling several fan conventions and public appearances during his treatment, thanking supporters for their understanding.

“I’m not trying to enlist sympathy or advice,” Campbell explained. “I just want to get ahead of the information in case false reports surface. Fear not, I’m a tough old son of a gun and have great support.”

Fans flooded his social media with messages of encouragement following the announcement. Campbell, who spent decades as a cult film icon, starred as Ash Williams in Evil Dead and Sam Axe on the hit TV show Burn Notice. He has also worked alongside director Sam Raimi on several films, including the Spider-Man trilogy and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In recent years, Campbell appeared in Invincible, A Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas, and Hysteria! He announced in 2023 that two new Evil Dead films and a possible animated spinoff were in development. It is unclear how his diagnosis will affect those projects. Campbell said his focus now is to “get as well as I possibly can” and return to his fans in good health.
