Ewbank's Auctions to Offer 47 Rare Copies of Superman "Bradman" Comic
Posted on October 13, 2025 by Neil Cole
UK based auction house, Ewbank's Auctions has announced the upcoming sale of 47 individual copies of the exceptionally rare 1988 Superman "Bradman" promotion comic, offered as part of its "Comics: Superman - This Island Bradman" auction on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025 at 11:00AM (BST).
The Bradman issue occupies a unique place in DC Comics lore. Produced in 1988 as a private commission by British property developer Godfrey Bradman, the eight-page Superman story was created as a personal gift and never released to the public. Only a small number were printed - estimated at fewer than 200 copies - making it one of the most elusive Superman comics of the modern era.
Ewbank's upcoming sale marks the largest known offering of these rare editions to date. The group includes professionally graded examples ranging from CGC 8.5 to CGC 9.6, representing some of the finest surviving copies known to exist. Each comic provides a rare glimpse into an unusual moment in the character's publishing history - when DC Comics created a bespoke Superman story for private circulation only.
For collectors, the auction represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a piece of comic book history. High-grade examples of the Bradman issue are seldom seen on the market, and the appearance of nearly four dozen copies in one sale is unprecedented.
The "Comics: Superman - This Island Bradman" auction will take place at Ewbank's Burnt Common Auction Rooms in Send, Surrey, England with live bidding available both in person and online at EwbankAuctions.co.uk. Viewing is also available by appointment ahead of the sale.
