Exclusive: Bablet & Singelin’s SHIN ZERO to launch on Kickstarter

1 week ago 9

Magnetic Press and French design studio Label 619 have announced the launch of a new collaboration, set to hit Kickstarter next week. Shin Zero is a graphic novel by award-winning creators Mathieu Bablet (Shangri-La, Carbon & Silicon) and Guillaume Singelin (Frontier, PTSD) that follows a team of sentai trying to make ends meet two decades after the last kaiju is defeated.

Here’s the full synopsis:

Twenty years after the last kaiju was vanquished, the sentai legacy survives—but only in fluorescent jackets and side hustles. Warren, Nikki, Héloïse, Satoshi, and Sofia were once ready to save the world. Today, they share a cramped flat and the fallout of their fading myth.

But something stirs in the ruins of this privatized paradise. When the line between nostalgia and nightmare begins to blur, these worn-out warriors must ask the question they’ve long tried to ignore: Are legends worth reviving—or better left to die?

The Beat can reveal an exclusive first look at art from Shin Zero, seen below.

Multiple editions of Shin Zero will be available through the Kickstarter campaign.

Backers can choose a digital edition; a 6.5″ x 9″ softcover retail edition with uncoated 128gsm woodfree interior stock, French flaps, and a spotUV metallic-foil-stamped cardstock cover; a limited edition exclusive hardcover bound in 3mm boards with metallic silver elements and curved corners; or a deluxe slipcased edition with “a kaiju skin-textured” and foil-stamped slipcase encasing the hardcover, a foil-stamped and numbered bookplate, and an exclusive metal Sentai Corp lapel pin.

Additional rewards will be revealed when the campaign launches.

In the meantime, interested readers can pre-register for the campaign and be notified at launch. Those who pre-register will receive $3 in shipping credit with their physical Kickstarter pledge and a bonus poster with the art seen below.
