Godzilla continues to tear through the Marvel Universe in a series of epic one-shots starring Godzilla fighting against famous Marvel superheroes, from the Fantastic Four to Hulk, and now, the Amazing Spider-Man! However, in a surprising twist, this one-shot is not set in the CURRENT Marvel Universe, but rather in the past, during a very notable point in Spider-Man's history. In this CBR exclusive preview of Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1, we see where the issue is set!
Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 is from writer Joe Kelly (who has recently launched a brand-new Amazing Spider-Man ongoing series), and it is very notably set in the period right after Secret Wars, where Spider-Man has just received the alien costume from the alien planet, Battleworld, which was the setting of the Secret Wars miniseries. So this issue is set firmly in the past of the Marvel Universe, and it will be fascinating to see how Kelly ties it all in together!

Spider-Man: The Short and Strange History of Kingpin II
In their latest spotlight on notable comic book retcons, CSBG shows how Marvel briefly introduced a SECOND Kingpin before retconning it away
In the preview pages, Joe Kelly hilariously not only sets the comic book in Spider-Man's past, but he went out of his way to make specific references to different points in Spider-Man's history, using old school editor notes to show that he is making this story occur in a VERY specific point in time, referencing then-current events in the old Spider-Man stories, like the fact that Black Cat had just recently received superpowers from the Kingpin.
Nick Bradshaw is clearly having a BLAST drawing old school Spider-Man in the preview pages, and after a brief fight against the Shocker, Spider-Man is suddenly shocked (pun unintended) to see Godzilla show up in the middle of New York City! To see what happens to our hero after he meets Godzilla (and what role the alien symbiote plays in everything), be sure to pick up a copy of Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 next week!
