Exclusive: WAKFU graphic novel prequel OGREST launches on Kickstarter July 15

Magnetic Press has announced the launch of the Kickstarter campaign for the first-ever English edition of the five-volume graphic novel series, Ogrest: The Storm Before the Tears, and The Beat has all the details. Ogrest is the official graphic novel prequel to the multimedia Wakfu franchise from French studio Ankama, which includes the free-to-play Dofus and Wakfu tactical RPGs and the Wakfu Netflix animated series.

Written and illustrated by David “Mig” Laurent, Ogrest is a dark fantasy epic offering inroads to some of the universe’s most iconic characters, with deeply engaging storytelling for fans old and new. Here’s the full synopsis, per the press release:

Set during the ancient Age of the Dofus, hidden away on a tranquil island, Ogrest knows only peace—until his beloved, the divine doll Dathura, mysteriously vanishes and the powerful artifacts known as the Primordial Dofus are stolen. In a desperate attempt to bring her back, Ogrest embarks on a perilous journey to recover the remaining Dofus—fabled dragon eggs of immense power—with hopes of granting Dathura’s wish to become human.

But what begins as a mission of love spirals into obsession. As divine conspiracies and political rivalries unfold around him, Ogrest becomes a vessel for something much larger—an unchecked force of grief and destruction. His sorrow unleashes a magical flood so devastating, it ends an era, reshaping the world and ushering in the Wakfu Era.

The Magnetic Press Kickstarter campaign features a limited edition boxed set collecting all five black-and-white, 6×9″ softcover volumes (192-240 pages each) in a slipcase with spot UV, metallic foil, and a printed liner. In addition to the full Ogrest series, each set includes:
