DC Comics' hit Absolute Martian Manhunter is officially going on hiatus for the next two months.

Per a June 20 Twitter post from critically acclaimed writer Deniz Camp, DC Comics' Absolute Martian Manhunter series "will be taking a two month creative break." This decision was made "so

that the creative team and quality can stay consistent," with Camp adding that the series will "be back after the two month break with another 6 issue arc."

This DC Villain With Deep Ties to Charlie Brown is Getting a Special Toy (But There's Bad News)

Kite-Man fans around the globe get some disappointing news from one of the comic book industry's biggest names, and even he's upset about it.

Absolute Martian Manhunter #1 arrived in comic book stores on March 26 and immediately established itself as the most mind-bending entry in DC Comics' newly established Absolute line of comics. The series follows FBI agent John Jones, who is saved from a terrorist attack by an otherworldly entity that exists only in thoughts and feelings known as the Martian (or frequently the Martian Mind****er by John himself). After forming a deep-seated bond with one another, John is imbued with the Martians' incredible, overtly psychedelic abilities, all before being swept up in an interstellar conflict he can only begin to understand.

Originally planned for only a handful of issues, the overwhelmingly positive response to Absolute Martian Manhunter saw the series extended almost immediately. Within two days of its release, DC Comics had greenlit Absolute Martian Manhunter for a full twelve-issue run. Camp celebrated the news on social media, while confirming that every single issue would feature the same creative team, with Javier Rodríguez providing main cover and interior art and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou continuing to letter the breakout hit series.

Marvel, DC and More Commit To Neon Ichiban, a Brand New Comics and Manga Digital Platform

Fans have a brand new digital platform for comic books and manga to look forward to, and Neon Ichiban might be what Comixology never was.

Before the release of the series, CBR spoke to Camp about how Absolute Martian Manhunter pays homage to classic detective stories despite its overtly psycho-noir aesthetic. "I'm drawing from those early Detective Comics stories, and going back to that. And that was a version of the Martian Manhunter who was kind of mysterious and almost mystical in his abilities, in the sense that he could seem to really do anything, whatever the story called for, and his perspective on humanity was really important," Camp explained. "I'm a fan of DC, and I've been a fan of the character for a long time. But for this, I wanted to do something, first and foremost, really new, and then, if it's harkening back to anything, it's that feel of the early kind of weird detective stories."
