Disney's The Haunted Mansion attraction might be closing soon, but a brand-new comic book is giving fans the chance to bring all the terror home for themselves.
Fan-favorite indie publisher TOKYOPOP has officially unveiled its next Disney tie-in title, The Haunted Mansion: Stray Spirits. Written by Sammie Crowley with art by Francesca Follini and art by Pascal Tora, The Haunted Mansion: Stray Spirits #1 is set to arrive in stores on October 14, less than two months after the original The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland reopens after its upcoming (temporary) closure.

The official solicit synopsis for The Haunted Mansion: Stray Spirits #1 from TOKYOPOP reads, "Feeling neglected by her dad at home and causing trouble at school, 12-year-old Adrienne’s only friend is a stray one-eyed cat that lives on the grounds of a mysterious mansion at the end of the neighborhood. But when her usual visit causes the cat to seem more troubled than usual, he disappears into the mansion, drawing Adrienne to chase him down."
The solicit text continues, "But what she finds inside isn’t what she expected: not only is this place filled with ghosts, but the mischievous cat is wreaking havoc across the mansion and its ghoulish residents! In order to find her friend and a way back home, Adrienne will have to fix up his messes and enlist the happy haunts for help. Now if only she could find a way out…"
The original The Haunted Mansion was opened to the public on Aug. 9, 1969, in Disneyland's New Orleans Square. The experience brings guests into a seemingly ordinary antebellum mansion before introducing them to a variety of menacing ghosts, twisting corridors, and strange, shifting rooms.
Since its introduction, The Haunted Mansion has become not just a fan-favorite attraction, but a veritable staple of pop culture unto itself. Versions of the attraction now exist at Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, and Tokyo Disneyland, and the original has served as the basis for two separate live-action feature films.
The Haunted Mansion Has Been Visited Through Movie Magic Before
The first feature film adaptation of The Haunted Mansion was released in 2003, and stars Eddie Murphy as Jim Evers, a workaholic who unwittingly drags his family into the middle of a dastardly plot concocted by the late, great Terence Stamp's Ramsley, the ghostly butler to Nathaniel Parker's similarly deceased Master Edward Gracey.
In 2023, another live-action adaptation of The Haunted Mansion made its way into theaters, this time starring LaKeith Stanfield as astrophysicist turned tour guide Ben Matthias, who takes up the reins of the business run by his beloved wife Alyssa prior to her tragic demise. While the first film adaptation was moderately successful at the box office, 2023's The Haunted Mansion failed to recoup its $150 million budget in theaters, grossing just $117.5 million over the course of its run.
The Haunted Mansion: Stray Spirits #1 from TOKYOPOP goes on sale on Oct. 14.
