One of the most beloved yet underrated Star Wars heroes of all time is about to take center stage in his very own one-shot.

Marvel Comics is about to bring readers back to one of the most harrowing chapters in Star Wars history with an upcoming slate of one-shot comics, each of which takes place just before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. While the first of these has already arrived, Saw Gerrera's is still more than a month away, giving fans plenty of time to catch up before it arrives.

Written by Marc Bernardin with art by Gabriel Guzman, Star Wars: Rogue One — Saw Gerrera #1 will follow the titular freedom fighter as he takes on the most dangerous mission of his life. And, even though fans already have some idea of where this story will leave Saw once it is over, the journey to get to that point is still more than worth exploring.

The official solicit synopsis for Star Wars: Rogue One — Saw Gerrera #1 from Marvel Comics reads, "After proving himself in the CLONE WARS, SAW GERRERA was a soldier for the cause of freedom and was willing to do anything to secure it — including leading a mission deep into IMPERIAL territory. At stake: information that would provide a tactical advantage that could shift the balance of power in the REBELS' favor! But is the price to be paid for that information too high?"

Who is Saw Gerrera in Star Wars?

Saw-Gerrera-Rebels

Saw Gerrera made his Star Wars debut back in the 2012 episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars entitled "A War on Two Fronts." Created for George Lucas' unproduced live-action Star Wars television series, Saw Gerrera was introduced as an Onderon loyalist who fought tirelessly to free his planet from the grip of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Throughout his stay in the franchise, Saw Gerrera has appeared in four separate series and one film, the latter being 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which saw Forest Whitaker step into the role previously voiced by Andrew Kishino. Whitaker reprised the role for the Rogue One prequel series Andor, as well as for numerous voice-overs for various titles such as 2019's Star Wars: The Fallen Order.

Marvel's new line of Rogue One prequel one-shots began on May 6 with the release of Star Wars: Rogue One — Cassian Andor #1. The series will continue on June 3 with the release of Star Wars: Rogue One — Jyn Erso #1, followed by Star Wars: Rogue One — Saw Gerrera #1 on July 1, Star Wars: Rogue One — Chirrut & Baze #1 in August, and Star Wars: Rogue One — Darth Vader #1 in September.

Star Wars: Rogue One — Saw Gerrera #1 from Marvel Comics goes on sale on July 1.
