G.I. Joe and Lara Croft's Crossover Returns Thanks To High Fan Demand

Lara Croft's surprise G.I. Joe crossover that dropped yesterday is only just beginning. Skybound has confirmed a second printing of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #330 due to massive demand, as well as an even bigger crossover series later this year.

"The time to pick up this landmark issue is NOW," Skybound's press release announcing the second printing teased. "Following Lara Croft’s surprise, historic first appearance in G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #330 today, the landmark issue will be rushed back to print." The initial printing completely sold out at the distributor level, hinting at big things to come when the first-ever Tomb Raider/G.I. Joe crossover event kicks off in October. G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #330 will return to comic book shops on Aug. 12, 2026 for its second printing.

Skybound Unveils New Lara Croft Cover for G.I. Joe #330

To celebrate the issue's success, Skybound's second printing will feature Lara Croft's first-ever Skybound cover appearance, drawn by artist Chris Mooneyham. "Enter Lara Croft — Tomb Raider...scourge of Cobra, and the newest recruit of G.I. Joe" the cover reads.

"Surprise! It was very difficult to keep Lara Croft’s secret appearance in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero under wraps, but now that the cat is out of the bag, we can't wait to show you what's next for the Tomb Raider!" Editorial Director of Skybound, Alex Antone, said in a press release. "This is the crossover event you never saw coming...but when it comes to Skybound comics, expect the unexpected!"

Those who were lucky enough to already get their hands on G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #330 when it went on sale on July 8 were able to see Lara Croft's first appearance as she infiltrated Castle Destro. It marked the first time that the worlds of G.I. Joe and Tomb Raider met in comic book history.

The crossover isn't going to end even after the second printing. Skybound also announced that in October, Lara Croft's search for Cobra Island goes to the next level in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero/Tomb Raider #1. It will be a five-issue limited series from Kyle Higgins (Immortal Legend Batman, Radiant Black) and Black Widow's Elena Casagrande. The issue will make its debut on Oct. 7, 2026.

Tomb Raider's Future Includes New Games and TV Series with Sophie Turner

The G.I. Joe crossover is the start of even bigger plans for the Tomb Raider franchise, with multiple video games and a television series on the horizon. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the 1996 game, is set to launch on Feb. 12, 2027. Tomb Raider: Catalyst, a new adventure with Lara Croft, is also set to debut sometime next year.

Amazon MGM Studios also has a Tomb Raider television series in development, with Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner playing Lara Croft. Martin Bobb-Semple, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, and Bill Paterson are also attached to the project, though it does not have a release date at this time.

Skybound's second printing of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #330 will be available on Aug. 12.
