GIANT-SIZE SPIDER-MAN #2 (1974)

3 weeks ago 14

This is the first time Spider-Man and Shang-Chi meet, so, of course, they fight. It doesn’t help that Fu Manchu manipulated their meeting so that each would think the other was a bad guy.

After the fight, Spider-Man explains that Fu Manchu is not a real dude. Chi reponds that of course he is because Fu is his daddy.

Fu Manchu’s big plan is to brainwash all of New York.

The supers stop him, with the help of Shang-Chi’s buddy Black Jack Tarr. A secret agent named after a form of heroin.

God I love ’70s comics.

Note that this is “Giant-Sized” but only because in addition to the original story above it reprints Amazing Spider-Man Annual #3. Back then, reprints were not all filler because it was hard to find old comics and even if you hit the stands every week, there was a good chance an issue wouldn’t be shipped to your street corner or that you’d miss out on buying it before it sold out.
