The most recognizable kaiju of all time just proved why multiple Marvel superheroes will never end his rampage.

In a preview of Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #2 (by Gerry Duggan, Javier Garrón, Paco Medina, Juann Cabal, Jesus Aburtov, and VC's Travis Lanham) from Marvel Comics, readers find Earth's Mightiest Heroes working tirelessly to put a stop to Godzilla's monstrous rampage. While the likes of T'Challa and Shuri toil away from afar on a weapon that might actually make Godzilla take pause, others like Spider-Man and Ant-Man are already fighting a losing battle from the frontlines. It isn't just that Spider-Man's iconic Spider-Senses won't budge in Godzilla's presence that makes the fight so one-sided, however, but also the fact that even Ant-Man's fabled Pym Particles mean nothing to this particular irradiated amphibian.

Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe comes hot on the heels of Godzilla vs. Marvel, which played out across a series of one-shots beginning with Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1 from writer Ryan North and artist John Romita Jr. Over the course of five more issues, Godzilla took one iconic Marvel heroes ranging from the X-Men to the Avengers to Spider-Man and even the Incredible Hulk. The overarching Godzilla vs. Marvel storyline was brought to an end in Godzilla vs. Thor #1 by writer Jason Aaron and artist Aaron Kuder, which closed things out by sending Godzilla to the depths of Hel to fight relentless Asgardian warriors until the end of time.

Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe kicked off with an explosive first issue that all hinged on the Fantastic Four's very first nemesis. In the series' first issue, it is none other than Harvey Elder, better known as the Mole Man, who awakens Godzilla from its otherwise peaceful slumber. The crux of the series' inciting events lies in the discovery of a specific form of Vibranium that has somehow been infused with Unstable Molecules. While that could have easily made the Mole Man into one of the most powerful figures on the planet, the emergence of Godzilla and the destruction wrought in its wake has effectively dashed any hopes the Mole Man had of making good use of the discovery.

Per the official solicit synopsis for Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #2, "As the King of the Monsters sets about making mincemeat out of Manhattan, Earth's Mightiest Heroes find reinforcements in the most unlikely of places — the villainous patrons of the Bar with No Name! Will their combined efforts be enough to slow Godzilla down — or are they merely adding fuel to the fire as the Venom symbiote discovers an even more enticing apex predator to latch onto?"

Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #2 goes on sale August 20 from Marvel Comics.
