It has been rumored since 2021 that Marvel Studios and Chris Evans have been discussing ways for him to return to the MCU, and those rumors included Hayley Atwell returning as Agent Peggy Carter, possibly to focus on the time between Steve Rogers returning the Infinity Stones and him giving the shield to Sam Wilson. But a story for a stand-alone film couldn’t be agreed upon.
Now with the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and the return of Anthony and Joe Russo to the franchise, Evans is said to be returning and now Deadline is reporting that Atwell will also be back. Plot details are unknown at this time. The film will bow in theaters on May 1, 2026. Since Avengers: Endgame, Atwell has played a variant version of Agent Carter, one who received the Super Soldier Serum instead of Rogers, and has appeared in the animated What If? series and the live-action Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
With Doomsday expected to be a multiversal film, it’s unclear which version of ‘Agent Carter’ Atwell will be playing this time.
