The following contains major spoilers for Spider-Boy #13, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
The latest teenage villain in the Marvel Universe has finally revealed the truth behind her mutant powers.
As the villainous duo of Bullseye and Spider-Girl take in the long flight from New York to Madripoor in the pages of Spider-Boy #13, the pair begin to ruminate on exactly what brought them together in the first place. Rather than ever setting out to become a villain, the young Makawalu Akana was instead sought out by Bullseye personally. Thanks to the many displays of strength and skill Maka posted to social media, it was immediately evident to Bullseye that her boasts of "anything you can do, I can do better," weren't just childish taunts, but rather an explicit definition of her mutant powers.

Introduced one issue prior in the pages of Spider-Boy #12, Makawalu Akana made her debut as the latest character to take up the mantle of Spider-Girl. Whereas previous Spider-Girls have been overt heroes in their endeavors, this iteration of the character is anything but. Not only does Maka have none of the usual powers that fans have come to expect from a character called Spider-Girl, she is more than happy to take part in potentially lethal bouts of combat against even the most experienced costumed crime-fighters.
The fight against Spider-Girl and Bullseye came as a result of Bailey Briggs, aka Spider-Boy, teaming back up with Marvel's very own Man Without Fear. Though Daredevil had once completely forgotten Bailey altogether, as did the rest of the world when the young hero first burst onto the scene, the Man Without Fear was in fact one of Spider-Boy's first and most important mentors. When Bailey was still struggling to come to terms with his powers, and when Peter Parker was struggling to properly teach him how to use them, Spider-Man reached out to Matt Murdock to fill in those gaps where he could not.

Baily Briggs made his comic book debut as Spider-Boy in 2023's Spider-Man #7 by Dan Slott and Mark Bagley. Following the Multiversal battle against the ancient villain Shathra and her army of insectile aberrations, the heroes of the Spider-Verse were finally able to repair the damage she had done to the Web of Life and Destiny. In doing so, Bailey Briggs was born into existence in an instant, albeit with none of the rest of the world having any recollection that he ever existed as himself or as his web-slinging alter-ego.

Spider-Man
Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics' most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man's most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.
Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character's lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O'Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.
Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he's changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
