This is a noir-ish one-shot featuring Orson Randall in L.A. in the roaring twenties.
It’s written in the style of Ed Brubaker’s “Criminal” series, which was a hit at this time, but the script is by Duane Swierczynski, who will soon become the regular series writer for Immortal Iron Fist.
Consider it an audition.
Nothing here is great–it’s largely forgettable–but I didn’t recall whether we’d previously seen Orson Randall channel the power of the Iron Fist through bullets in his guns. On the one hand, that’s cool. On the other, it’s much less of a “karate” comic, which is what made the “Immortal” branding special.
Mixed feelings, but I did enjoy the read.
