It's the End of an Era for Godzilla in the Marvel Universe

1 day ago 5

In the 1970s, Marvel famously published a Godzilla ongoing series that was a big hit. However, as is the case for most licensed characters, eventually licenses end. Amusingly, Marvel then, over the years, kept obliquely referring to Godzilla in its comic books. Then, recently, Marvel and Toho International worked out a deal allowing Marvel to reprint that original Godzilla series, as well as do some variant covers involving Godzilla. That led to a series of one-shots where Godzilla fought classic Marvel characters throughout the years. Finally, it has culminated in a Godzilla Versus the Marvel Universe miniseries.

This epic battle between the collective might of the Marvel Universe and the King of all Monsters comes to a conclusion this November, and we have a look at the solicitation for that last issue, as well as the final covers.

What is the solicitation for the final issue?

What has been going on in the series in the first two issues released so far?

Godzilla has been a MAJOR problem for the Marvel Universe, as Godzilla has torn through every defense and attack that the heroes have been able to throw at him in the first two issues of the series. He was able to break Doctor Strange's strongest mystical containment spell, he was able to easily defeat Marvel's Godzilla equivalent, Fin Fang Foom, he was even able to withstand a rare truce between the superheroes and supervillains of the Marvel Universe, as he took on all comers. At the end of the second issue, Doctor Strange temporarily slowed the beast down by sending Godzilla into the Astral Plane, but that is only a temporary solution.

Not only that, but Venom's symbiote was so shocked by Godzilla's might that it abandoned Eddie Brock to try to bond with Godzilla, and we see in these covers that Godzilla eventually DOES bond with the symbiote at some point, which means even MORE trouble for the Marvel Universe. How it all ends won't be revealed, though, until the final issue comes out this November.
