Kevin Smith Teases More Jay and Silent Bob Adventures Soon

Smith also has a long history of writing comics, with runs on Batman, Daredevil, and even Spider-Man being among his list of credits. This past year, however, he got to fulfill a decades-old dream of having his most iconic characters crossover with the Marvel Universe in Jay and Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past. And if a few of his recent comments are any indication, the story may not end there.

Kevin Smith Is Eager To Write A Follow-Up To Jays Of Future Past

On the most recent episode of his podcast, Fatman Beyond, Kevin Smith let co-host Marc Bernardin know that Jay and Silent Bob's adventures in the Marvel Universe may not be over yet. Apparently, nothing is set in stone, but Smith seemed very confident that further Jay and Silent Bob stories would be hitting the iconic publisher's pages at some point in the future. Marvel would also likely be very into the idea, considering Jays of Future Past #1 sold like hot cakes, receiving a second printing order with two variant covers.

In Jays of Future Past, Doctor Doom learns that Jay and Silent Bob have arrived in his universe, and that he'd have no hope of conquering Earth while the two New Jersey icons were around. This isn't the first time Jay and Silent Bob have played oblivious roles in saving the world — in Dogma, the two aided the Last Scion, Bethany Sloane, in stopping two fallen angels from reentering Heaven and wiping out reality in the process. This time, however, it falls on a who's who of Marvel's most recognizable heroes to save the bumbling duo after Doom begins a universe-wide hunt to rid himself of their threat.

According to Smith himself, Jays of Future Past is a concept he had pitched to Marvel legend Stan Lee way back in 1995, when the latter made a cameo appearance in Smith's second film, Mallrats. 30 years later, Smith got the opportunity to do it with his most popular characters as both his View Aksewniverse and the Marvel Universe rose to pop culture greatness in the decades since his initial pitch.

Kevin Smith's Impact On Comic Culture Is Large

Mallrats is one of the early examples of Kevin Smith's intense knowledge of the comic book world, but in the 30 years following the the film's release, he has proven time and time again just how important comics are to him. Smith's penchant for referencing comics in his film, or filling each shot with colorful scenes reminiscent of the panels he'd read as a kid, helped bring comic books to the mainstream. His work aided in making comics less of a niche hobby and something so many more could enjoy on a wider scale. His Mallrats script even gets a cameo in the MCU's 2019 movie Captain Marvel, being read on a bus by Stan Lee himself.

Kevin Smith has written several comics of his own over the years. Most recently, Smith wrote Quick Stops — an anthology story set in his View Askewniverse, featuring many familiar faces from films like Clerks or Chasing Amy — and the "definitive, indefinitive" origin of one of the great Superman characters of all time in Bizarro: Year None. Before that, Smith helped bring Daredevil back as a must-read book with Daredevil: Guardian Devil and wrote for numerous other characters, like Batman, Spider-Man, Green Hornet, and many more. Needless to say, a continuation of Smith's latest journey into the superhero realm with Jays of Future Past should be something any comic reader should be hoping for and looking forward to.
