Lynda Carter, former Wonder Woman actress and one time outspoken Christian who once described herself as a “born again believer in Jesus” during the height of her fame, is now being very vocal of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Carter’s current stance comes at a time when the entertainment industry, military, and academic institutions in the U.S. are facing heated debates over the role of merit versus identity-based selection.
In a recent post on Bluesky, Carter stated, “‘DEI’ is not a bad word. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamentally American – a reflection of who we actually are. After centuries of erasure, we’ve seen progress in representation in recent years, and I don’t want to go back.” Carter further argued, “Quite simply, DEI exists to help our institutions and media more accurately represent the true demographics of the United States. Attempting to address many wrongs that will take a long time to make right.”

Carter’s comments come as DEI programs face intense scrutiny nationwide. The U.S. Supreme Court struck down race-based affirmative action in college admissions in June 2023, and President Donald Trump’s administration has moved to eliminate DEI initiatives across the federal government, military, and private sector, calling these policies “divisive” and a replacement for “hard work, merit, and equality.” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the Pentagon would immediately comply with the order to end DEI programs, signaling a return to merit-based standards in military advancement.
Critics argue that the entertainment industry’s increasing focus on DEI has come at the expense of quality, leading to casting and hiring decisions that prioritize diversity statistics over talent and achievement. Similar concerns have been raised in academia and the military, where opponents of DEI claim these policies undermine excellence and public trust in American institutions.
Carter’s remarks were made on Bluesky, more of a left-leaning echo chamber than a social media platform. She acknowledged the controversy, stating, “I don’t expect everyone to agree with me, but I definitely seem to have upset many more people on X than here with these statements! Ha!”
It’s certainly bizarre to see the evolution of Lynda Carter, once a vocal advocate for Christian values, and now fully embracing DEI and left-wing politics, even turning against her evangelical sister, Pamela, a republican politician in Arizona’s 2024 House race. The former Wonder Woman star publicly endorsed Pamela’s Democrat opponent, prioritizing her left-wing progressive ideals over family ties. Carter’s fall from a faith-driven, global icon to a champion of LGBTQ, abortion, and other liberal causes probably makes family holidays a bit awkward.
