The following contains major spoilers for "Our Kryptonite" from the pages of Spider-Man/Superman #1, on sale now from Marvel and DC Comics.

Superman just got a major upgrade courtesy of Marvel Comics, and it makes him Spider-Man's worst nightmare.

"Our Kryptonite" (by Brad Meltzer, Pepe Larraz, Matthew Wilson, and VC's Clayton Cowles) finds the Man of Steel and Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man doing their best to push their way out from the crumbling prison they have been trapped within by Lex Luthor and Doctor Octopus. Unfortunately, the villains aren't interested in destroying the heroes directly, especially not when they can unleash a Venomized Superman to do just that for them.

What To Remember About Spider-Man/Superman #1

Spider-Man/Superman #1 follows hot on the heels of this year's previous DC/Marvel Comics crossover anthology — Superman/Spider-Man #1. Like last year's Batman/Deadpool #1 and Deadpool/Batman #1, the latest round of comic book crossovers offers readers more than a dozen stories featuring some of their favorite characters from both the DC and Marvel Universes.

Perhaps even more importantly, Superman/Spider-Man #1 and Spider-Man/Superman #1 mark the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the very first crossover between the Marvel and DC Universes, which took place all the way back in 1976's Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man: The Battle of the Century. While Marvel and DC Comics had previously collaborated on MGM's Marvelous Wizard of Oz the year prior, Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man: The Battle of the Century was the first time that original characters from either publisher crossed paths.

Apart from the issue's main story featuring its eponymous duo, Spider-Man/Superman #1 features a myriad of other exciting and unexpected team-ups. Among these are stories featuring Spider-Man Noir joining forces with the Superman of the Golden Age, Gwen Stacy and Lana Lang finding an unlikely ally in one another, and an explosive battle between John Henry Irons, aka Steel, and the high-flying terror that is the Hobgoblin.

Spider-Man/Superman #1 from Marvel and DC Comics is on sale now.

  • Spider-Man wears his classic red and blue and black symbiote suits in Marvel Comics

Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics' most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man's most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character's lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O'Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.

Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he's changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
