Growing up in rural Iowa as a reluctant reader, it all changed when he started reading the original Fantastic Four by Lee/Kirby. Now Austin can't stop reading. He has written about comics for Comic Book Yeti and he has also written tons of indie comics, best known for Big Guns Stupid Rednecks.
Just ahead of the release of Marvel's Wolverine video game from Insomniac Games this September, a limited-edition prequel comic will be available at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.
This new Wolverine comic from Marvel will be available at their San Diego Comic Con booth (Booth #2329). The comic was written by the game's creative director, Walt Williams. It has yet to be announced who illustrated the comic. Marvel will also be giving out Wolverine claws from the game. Sorry to those not attending the convention — it seems that this prequel is an event-only exclusive.
Marvel's Wolverine is made by Insomniac Games, the studio behind games like Spryo, Ratchet and Clank, as well as Marvel's Spider-Man series. The game's official description gives fans more information about what to expect: "Logan thought he was finished being Wolverine, but the past wasn’t finished with him yet. Three years after walking out on his team, Wolverine rejoins the mutant task force, Team X, in their darkest hour. Driven by his fanatical belief in human superiority, Bolivar Trask is kidnapping mutants. Only Wolverine has what it takes to save them. In his fight for the future, Wolverine must team up with fellow mutants across the globe through locations like Canada, Japan, and the Marvel island nation of Madripoor. With the fate of humans and mutants hanging in the balance, Logan knows the world needs a hero; however, they’ll have to settle for Wolverine."
Wolverine Must Travel the World to Save Mutants

Besides the release of this prequel comic, Marvel will also be releasing a variant cover of the main Wolverine title. The variant cover is an homage to the cover of Wolverine #75 by Larry Hama (G. I Joe) and will be available later this year.
Wolverine has always been the most violent and lethal member of the X-Men. Marvel's Wolverine looks to have captured his essence perfectly. Fans have been speculating as to what other mutants might show up in this game. Wolverine has a deep history with such characters as Sabertooth, Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, Morph, and Cyclops, but it is still unclear who else we will see show up. Could we see a cameo from a non-mutant member of the Marvel Universe?
Insomniac Games did such an amazing job with Marvel's Spider-Man, fans hope Marvel's Wolverine will live up to the hype. As September 15 slowly inches closer to the game's release, this comic will have to hold fans over until then. Though the physical copy is exclusive to San Diego Comic-Con, perhaps Marvel will release it digitally on their website or as an in-game Easter egg.
The prequel comic will be available exclusively at Marvel's booth at San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel's Wolverine will be available on Sept. 15 exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
