Marvel Comics has officially given fans another look at the next Captain America.

As per a press release from Marvel Comics, the new Captain America series from writer Chip Zdarsky is not only slated to mark a major turning point in the career of Steve Rogers, but also the introduction of a brand-new Star-Spangled Avenger in the series' recently-released first issue. This new Captain America, David Colton, was just a child when he watched the 9/11 attacks unfold before his very eyes, inspiring him to enlist in the United States military despite his overtly meek, scrawny nature. CBR has a first look at the second issue that reveals a bit more of the brand-new Captain America.

  • Also: Who is David Colton, and can Steve trust him to have his back as they infiltrate a hostile country with the new Howling Commandos?

David Colton's story is set to follow much the same trajectory as Steve Rogers' own, with the young, fiery, objectively outmatched soldier forging a new path and eventually picking up a suit and shield of his own. David will ultimately be teamed up with the modern-day Howling Commandos, the latest in a long line of elite soldiers chosen to take on the most dangerous missions of all. It is during one of these missions carried out in Latveria that David and Steve Rogers will cross paths, as the upcoming Captain America series is set to rewrite history in more than a few ways.

By taking advantage of the sliding timescale that the Marvel Universe exists within, the latest Captain America series sees its titular hero freed from his icy prison far later than fans have come to expect. Rather than joining the Avengers, Captain America decides that returning to military service is the best way for him to grow accustomed to the world as it stands decades after he left it behind. When Captain America's first mission sends him to Latveria, he not only meets the latest iteration of the Howling Commandos, but the dreaded Doctor Doom for what is now the very first time.
