Peter Parker and Miles Morales fight the Lizard Image via Marvel Comics

Two of Spider-Man's worst enemies are finding a whole new kind of spark between them.

The Spectacular Spider-Men #13 picks up just moments after the tragic attack against the eponymous heroes, which left Anna Romney, a completely innocent bystander, on the verge of death. Unsurprisingly, the Electros behind this attack don't care that they may have killed someone for no reason, nor that there are multiple Wall-Crawler's helpless before them. Instead, all that they are worried about is the palpable tension between them and where this electrifying new romance will lead.

Marvel's original Electro, Max Dillon, made his comic book debut all the way back in 1963's Amazing Spider-Man #9 by Sten Lee and Steve Ditko. Once a professional electrician and lineman whose marriage fell apart in a similar fashion to that of his parents' own, Max was already well on his way towards villainy before the freak accident that transformed him into a living capacitor. Before long, Max was making a name for himself as one of the most shocking foes that Spider-Man or any other Marvel hero has ever faced, leading to a lucrative supervillain career alongside the likes of the Sinister Six.

When Francine Frye first appeared in 2014's Amazing Spider-Man #2 by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, she was one of Electro's frequent accomplices, albeit one with no powers of her own. When the two first became romantically entangled, Max's powers were almost impossible to control, leading to Francine's tragic demise. Like so many other New York City mainstays before her, Francine was eventually resurrected in the form of a clone by the Jackal, with just enough of Max's DNA getting accidentally caught in the process for this new Francine to emerge as a whole new kind of Electro.

This new romantic spark between the two Electros came about during what would have otherwise been a completely lethal affair. In the hopes of finally settling on which one of them had any true claim to the name Electro, Francine and Max decided to bet on which of them could kill a Spider-Man first. Since then, the pair have taken every opportunity to slay either of the city's premier Wall-Crawlers, with both Peter Parker and Miles Morales ending up in the crosshairs while helping the city's newest superhero, Elementary, train in the use of her newfound shapeshifting abilities.
