The imprint Maverick from Mad Cave Studios is publishing In Mourning by Paula Cheshire as the 2022 graphic novel is getting a new English translation. Originally published in Spanish under the title El Duelo, the graphic novel follows Paula who is navigating her life after the loss of her mother to cancer.
When someone dies, there’s a void — a loss. No matter what. There’s a whirlwind of feelings and confusion. We don’t know what happens to the dead after death, but we do know what happens to the living. Paula beautifully narrates the loss of her mother and how she copes with the sudden loss in this charming and moving graphic novel.
The graphic novel earned Chesire acclaim and The Antifaz Award 2023 for Best New Author. Nannette McGuinness and Mercedes Guhl are translating In Mourning, while the lettering is by Jodie Troutman. Maverick expressed excitement about publishing the story.

In Mourning from Mad Cave Studios and Maverick arrives in comic book shops on August 26, 2025. The 136-page graphic novel will retail $14.99 USD.
