Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Brings Back a Major Fan-Favorite Character

Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
When Mighty Morphin Power Rangers introduced the Green Ranger, the series might as well have changed its title to The Tommy Oliver Show. Even when Jason David Frank's character was still portrayed as Rita Rapulsa's lackey, he proved more popular than the rest of Angel Grove's young costumed protectors.
For the first time ever, Tommy Oliver is about to become the central lead of his own story in the form of an upcoming comic book. Recently announced information about the plot of Power Rangers: Green gives fans even more of a reason to be excited for the hero's highly anticipated return.
Power Rangers: Green Villain Is Revealed
Boom! Studios put out the solicitation for Power Rangers: Green #2, which provides further insight into the story following Tommy Oliver years after the Power Rangers were in their prime. It teases that he will be lured back into the war when an unexpected visitor pleads for his help against a deadly enemy.
Said new villain is known as the Red Censer, which sounds almost like a cherry-scented form of aromatherapy, but is anything but therapeutic. This strange threat is a giant machine that moves around with spider-like legs and is controlled by Mr. Mayor Man to magically remove any person, place, or thing he wants from the world as he pleases.
Tommy has taken on his fair of unusual threats when fighting with the Power Rangers, such as the purple Ivan Ooze, played by Raiders of the Lost Ark's Paul Freeman, in 1995's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. However, this is easily one of the strangest yet, let alone one of the more dangerous, considering its reality-altering capabilities.
The solicitation for Power Rangers: Green #2 does not, however, provide any additional information about the "ragtag crew" he has joined forces with for this new adventure. Perhaps readers will just need to check out the comic when it debuts to find out.
Power Rangers: Green Follows An Older Tommy Oliver

For its target demographic, the appeal of the Power Rangers franchise, which launched as an Americanized update of Japan's Super Sentai in 1993, was seeing young people like them given the opportunity and ability to save the world from otherworldly evil. It appears that Boom! Studios' upcoming installment of its comic book run based on the series is intended to appeal to the adults who grew up with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Power Rangers: Green takes place in a dystopian future where the only surviving Ranger is Tommy Oliver, who has opted to leave his days fighting bizarre creatures behind in favor of a peaceful existence. However, the emergence of a horrifying threat inspires him to reconnect with that dormant side of himself.
The five-part limited series is written by Paul Allor, who is previously known for writing Power Rangers titles for Boom! Studios, which acquired the license to the property in 2015. Peruvian artist Gustaffo Vargas, who is also known for co-creating Image Comics' hit cyberpunk series Nullhunter, serves as the illustrator.
