Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Confirms Who the New Rita Really Is

The Power Rangers' original big bad is back in a whole new form, and she has her sights set on the one person no one saw coming.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #2 (by Marguerite Bennett, Andrew Lee Griffith, Joshua Jensen, and Ed Dukeshire) picks up right where the previous issue left off, with the eponymous heroes facing off against the overwhelming technological threat commanded by the recently introduced Rita Rabiosa. As it turns out, this Rita hails from another dimension entirely, one where the Power Rangers stole the life of her child, and as such, she has come gunning for that of the young Minh Kwan in her twisted pursuit of justice.

The official solicit synopsis for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #2 from BOOM! Studios reads, "Teenagers With Attitude—NO MORE! The second issue in the two-part introduction of the all-new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series is here... and the Rangers battle Rita Rabiosa as she turns earth-based technology against humans!"

The solicit text continues, "It's been a decade since Jason, Zack, Kimberly, Trini, and Billy have morphed together as a team — can find their rhythm once again to become the legendary Power Rangers of their past? Or are the challenges of their grown-up lives destined to cut this reunion short?"

BOOM! Studios' Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Explained

The release of the current Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series marked the beginning of a whole new era for the comic book franchise, as well as the first ongoing title since BOOM! Studios' original eight-year epic came to a close in 2024. The series is set decades after the original team retired from heroics, only for them to be brought back together when the threat of Rita Rabiosa arises seemingly out of nowhere.

The latest series also marked the comic book debut of Minh Kwan, the daughter of original Yellow Ranger Trini Kwan. Minh was originally introduced in 2023's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always 30th anniversary special, as portrayed by Charlie Kersh, as the teen daughter of Trini who took up her late mother's mantle to help take on the threat of Robo Rita.

To top things off, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has introduced a whole new Morphinomenal mystery regarding the whereabouts of Tommy Oliver. While the rest of the classic Mighty Morphin lineup all heeded the call for help, Tommy seemingly chose to ignore it in favor of continuing his journey through a currently unnamed prehistoric (or alien) jungle landscape.
