New Toxic Avenger Comic Officially Confirmed To Arrive This Fall

One of the most definitive and widely beloved characters in schlock cinema history is the title hero of The Toxic Avenger. The hulking, hideously deformed mutant of superhuman size and strength would become the face of the film's independent production company, Troma.

The unlikely superhero would eventually take his rightful place in the comic book industry when he acquired his own series, which was initially released through Marvel in the 1990s and was more recently obtained by Ahoy Comics. The publisher has a new Toxic Avenger adventure in the works, which will see the hero meet his ultimate match.

The Toxic Avenger vs. The Noxious Offender Debuts Fall 2026

Ahoy Comics is preparing to release The Toxic Avenger vs. The Noxious Offender, a new series based on the franchise created by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz in 1984. The original cult classic horror-comedy movie tells the story of an awkward, plucky custodian transformed into a hero after accidentally falling into a vat of toxic waste.

In this new story, "Toxie" comes face-to-face with an enemy that will prove to be his greatest challenge yet, known as the Noxious Offender. This being is also a hulking, hideously deformed mutant of superhuman size and strength, but instead of a compulsion to rid the world of crime, he is compelled to spread it.

However, that is not all the troubled hero has to contend with, as he discovers that he and his girlfriend (who has previously been called Sara or Claire in the movies, but goes by her name from the animated series, Toxic Crusaders, Yvonne, in this story) are going to be parents. An exclusive preview from ScreenRant reveals that Toxie is concerned by the idea of being a young parent, not just due to the responsibility, but also because of how a child bred from a creature could turn out.

The five-part limited series is written by Matt Bors, a veteran of Ahoy Comics' Toxic Avengers run, who is also known for his Eisner Award-winning work on the online comics publication The Nib, which he founded in 2013. Illustrating The Toxic Avenger vs. The Noxious Offender is Brazilian artist and colorist Felipe Sobriero of Image Comics' Malevolent and Luther Strode fame.

The Noxious Offender Originates From A Toxic Avenger Movie

The Toxic Avenger vs. The Noxious Offender marks the comic book debut of the more villainous side of the series' eponymous duo. However, the character is not exclusive to Ahoy Comics' upcoming release.

The evil counterpart to the mutant hero was introduced in the fourth cinematic installment of the franchise, 2000's Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV, in which Toxie (physically portrayed by David Mattey and voiced by Clyde Lewis) finds himself trapped in a dystopian alternate Tromaville. He later learns that the trans-dimensional trip caused the Noxious Offender (also played jointly by Mattey and Lewis) to take his place in his reality and, much like in the upcoming comic, begins framing him for a series of evil deeds.

Toxie was first played jointly by Mitch Cohen and Kenneth Tessler (not counting Mark Torgl's pre-transformation performance as Melvin Ferd) in the 1984 original film before being succeeded by John Altamura and Ron Fazio in the first follow-up and in The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie from 1989. Rodger Bumpass, better known as Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants, would voice the role in Toxic Crusaders in the early 1990s.

The franchise received a modern update with the 2025 release of writer and director Macon Blair's The Toxic Avenger. Emmy winner Peter Dinklage takes over the role (which he also shares with Luisa Guerreiro, who fills in as Toxie), who is reimagined as a custodian and single father who takes revenge on the corrupt pharmaceutical company he works for after suffering his grotesque transformation.
