The official solicit synopsis for Spider-Boy #1 Facsimile Edition reads, "As iconic heroes of two worlds collide in the Amalgam Universe, get ready to meet Pete Ross – your friendly neighborhood clone known as Spider-Boy! Join the amazing Arach-Kid mid-fight as he protects Project Cadmus from the deranged D.N.Alien, Bizarnage! But even if he can solve that problem, big trouble lies ahead courtesy of a somehow giant-sized King Lizard! Can Spider-Boy bring his reptilian rogue down to size in time to meet the blind date lined up for him by his ally, Otto Octavius? Face it, tiger – you’re dying to find out!"
The Amalgam Universe was first visited in 1996 and introduced a whole new reality in which the heroes and villains of both the Marvel and DC Universes existed as combined versions of themselves. The original run of Amalgam Universe titles starred heroes including Spider-Boy (Spider-Man/Superboy), Doctor Strangefate (Doctor Strange/Doctor Fate), Speed Demon (Ghost Rider/Etrigan/The Flash), and Super Soldier (Captain America/Superman). In 1997, the Amalgam Universe returned with a second round of even more shocking mash-up titles, ranging from Generation Hex, which featured versions of Generation X and other mutant heroes that had been combined with the likes of DC Comics' Jonah Hex, to the infamous Lobo the Duck.

The return of Amalgam Comics, albeit in Facsimile Edition releases, comes as the latest crossover title announcement from Marvel and DC Comics this year. Back in May, it was confirmed that Marvel and DC will be joining forces multiple times over the coming years, the first of which is set to arrive later this year in the form of two one-shot that will tell the combined story of Deadpool/Batman and Batman/Deadpool. The former will be written by Zeb Wells and feature art by Greg Capullo, while the latter will be written by Grant Morrison and feature art by Dan Mora. "No way I could turn down the chance to work with Dan Mora again, one of my all-time favorite artistic collaborators," Morrison said of the title. "Expect 4th wall-busting mayhem, owls, blood, blades, and at least one giant typewriter."
