"ECs are high-value targets for collectors due to the imprint's scandalous reputation, extremely talented creators, and cult status. Even the more common EC books are hard to come by, but a Tales of Terror Annual is painfully rare," part of the Tales of Terror Annual #1's auction description reads.

"The 1951, 1952, and 1953 Tales of Terror Annuals are without a doubt the hardest EC items to come by, short of the Picto Fiction, Shock Illustrated #3," Jerry Weist commented in the first issue of fanzine Squa Tront in 1967. "And no wonder! It has been discovered that the Annuals were only distributed in a small part of the United States when they were released."
