Operation: Iron Coffin Features Dracula's Wildest Action Sequence So Far

This new, blood-soaked slice of revisionist history starring the lord of all vampires has already been a scream among gorehounds who love the idea of a notorious villain being commissioned for an act of heroism. Operation: Iron Coffin #2 Doubles Down On Vamp Vs. Nazi Action

The plot of Operation: Iron Coffin, released through IDW Publishing's horror imprint, IDW Dark, has been described as "Dracula goes John Wick against Nazis on a train." Indeed, the summer horror comic book release follows the recently released bloodsucker who, in a bid for redemption, is air-dropped by the British Allied forces onto a locomotive where he engages in his own brand of combat against a fleet of German soldiers.

Things get even crazier for The Count in the series' second chapter, when he takes on one of Hitler's more hulking loyals who is brandishing a gun almost as large as he is. Of course, such a weapon is no match for a creature of the night that is famously only vulnerable to pointed objects aimed at the heart, but it makes for a ludicrously fun sequence nonetheless.

Part of the appeal of Operation: Iron Coffin is how it does away with dialogue during its action sequences and relies on over-the-top sound effects to better immerse the reader into the moment. The above scene from the second chapter is a perfect representation of that engaging element.

According to its official solicitation, Operation: Iron Coffin #2 also reveals the specific bargain that Dracula established with Quincy Harker, which led to him accepting his mission aboard a Nazi-owned train harboring the threat of a vampire plague. He will also have two other augmented soldiers under the command of the wicked Hazel and Ivy to take on in addition to the aforementioned Gunner, dubbed the Spear and the Bell, who will test the limits of how far one can challenge an immortal being.

Operation: Iron Coffin Is Already A Hit Horror Comic

The concept of Operation: Iron Coffin alone is enough to get horror obsessives and even history buffs alike interested in securing a copy. However, it helps that the comic book has been well-received among critics, including CBR's own Brian Cronin, and readers as well.

In fact, it has already earned itself a juicy piece of merchandise in the form of a killer T-shirt that will be exclusively available at IDW's own booth (#2729) at 2026's San Diego Comic-Con.

Operation: Iron Coffin comes from the mind of writer Kenny Porter, who has dealt with the concept of unlikely heroes before with his Image Comics series, The Schlub, and recently introduced the concept of Kal-El's father, Jor-El, coming to Earth instead in the DC Elseworld's story, Superman: Father of Tomorrow. The series is illustrated by Porter's frequent collaborator, Tyrell Cannon.

The debut issue of the new, acclaimed horror comic book series is already flying off the shelves. Operation: Iron Coffin #2 is now available for pre-order until the deadline on July 20.
