Quentin Tarantino’s “Batsh*t Crazy” Star Trek Script that Hollywood Will Never Make

Simon Pegg, who portrayed Scotty in the recent Star Trek films, shared his thoughts on a Star Trek script pitched by director Quentin Tarantino. Pegg discussed his experience at a comic convention in Boston and explained that while he never read Tarantino’s screenplay, he did receive a summary of the idea from producers J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber.

According to Pegg, Tarantino’s script was “batsh*t crazy” and matched what many might expect from a filmmaker known for intense crime stories and unique approaches. Pegg said, “It was everything you would expect a Quentin Tarantino Star Trek script to be. I think it would have been such an incredible sort of curio to see Star Trek through his lens. I don’t know how it would have gone over with the fans, but it certainly would have been an interesting thing”.

Quentin Tarantino had approached Paramount with a proposal for an R-rated Star Trek film. The project even included Mark L. Smith, a screenwriter best known for The Revenant, joining to write the full script. Despite early enthusiasm from both Tarantino and producer J.J. Abrams, the project did not move forward. Tarantino later said he had doubts about choosing Star Trek for his last film, a point of hesitation that he could not overcome, leaving the script unfinished on his desk.

Recently, Pegg also talked about the possibility of returning for another Star Trek sequel. His outlook has become more positive since Skydance Media acquired Paramount, with David Ellison now overseeing the studio. Pegg noted, “I’m hoping now that David Ellison is high up at Paramount. Now the merger’s happened, and David’s always been a big supporter of the Kelvin timeline. So who knows, maybe we’ll get to make another one”.

Rumor has it Quentin Tarantino’s final film will start production in December, with Brad Pitt, Uma Thurman, and Samuel L. Jackson possibly joining the cast.

As for Tarantino’s future plans, although rumors circulated about a new, untitled project, nothing has been confirmed by the director. His script for The Adventures of Cliff Booth, connected to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, is still expected to appear on Netflix. Another project, The Movie Critic, has reportedly fallen off his list of upcoming films.
