Riverdale Is Officially Returning After the End of the Divisive Live-Action Series

Riverdale fans will finally get a new release, three years after the CW series concluded back in 2023. Oni Press has revealed special new Riverdale editions for Archie, Jughead, and even Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

The New Riverdale editions will take fans back to Oni Press's recent era of publishing set in the beloved Riverdale universe. Archie's special edition will be the first to launch at the end of September, with Sabrina and Jughead's own versions following in October. Oni Press has unveiled cover art for the new trade paperbacks, which will retail for $9.99 and collect five issues each.

Archie, Jughead, and Sabrina Return for Oni Press's New Riverdale Editions

The New Riverdale era starts off with Eisner Award winners Mark Waid (Kingdom Come) and Fiona Staples (Saga) as they bring Archie Andrews to living color in the modern-day retelling of how Riverdale's friends came together. Archie: New Riverdale Compact Edition TP collects Archie (2015) #1-6 and goes on sale Sept. 29, 2026. The new editions come just as Oni is rebooting Archie and Sabrina with brand-new stories, too.

The solicit gives readers an idea of all the Riverdale characters they'll see involved in the story's reprinting. "Meet the Riverdale gang as you’ve never seen them before: Archie, the cool, guitar-strumming all-American boy; his oddball but wise best friend, Jughead; girl-next-door cum car mechanic Betty; and the stylishly rebellious new girl Veronica as they conquer high school drama, dating, and so much more in this contemporary new take on the students of Riverdale High!"

After Archie makes his New Riverdale Compact Edition debut, Sabrina will follow with Sabrina The Teenage Witch: New Riverdale Compact Edition TP on Oct. 13, 2026. Just in time for the spooky season, the story comes from Kelly Thompson and Andy Fish.

"At first glance, Sabrina Spellman is a typical teenager trying to balance school and homework, family and friends—all the while navigating the social perils of being the new girl in town... but with her burgeoning powers, trouble is sure to follow, forcing Sabrina to become the unwitting (secret) hero of Greendale!"

Lastly, the beloved Jughead's own New Riverdale Compact Edition TP will release on Oct. 27, taking center stage with his own story from Chip Zdarsky (Captain America) and Erica Henderson (Unbeatable Squirrel Girl).

"Archie Andrews’ best friend, Jughead Jones—a freethinker with an insatiable appetite for food and justice—takes on the school administration when a strict set of rules and increasingly bland healthy lunch menu threaten the fate of his beloved cafeteria at Riverdale High!"

Oni's solicit continues to reveal the humorous tone of the story, saying: "Forced to his breaking point by an almost-empty stomach, Jughead will need to marshal his fellow students and save his friends from a soulless teen existence sodden by healthy, sodium-free fare. Burgers and lasagna shall reign once again!"

The fact that Oni Press is reviving its own New Riverdale series is far from the most surprising fact about the franchise. When The CW's Riverdale debuted back in 2017, it was met with positive reviews early on — though things quickly went off the rails as the series expanded to include crazy plot swings and absurd storylines.

What began as a grounded murder mystery series ended up encompassing a much larger shared universe in the CW's fold. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series is the most obvious and well-known connection to Riverdale, with Sabrina's own town of Greendale being introduced in Riverdale's second season.

Katy Keene, a musical comedy-drama based on the Archie Comics character of the same name, followed in 2020 and ran for one season. The 2022 reboot of Pretty Little Liars also saw references to Riverdale, confirming that the show was also a part of the shared universe in a move that no one was likely to have seen coming.

Oni Press's New Riverdale Compact Editions launch this September and October.
