After almost a year of waiting, Deadpool’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be getting closer to confirmation. During the recent casting announcement for Avengers: Doomsday, fans watched for hours to see which heroes would join the next big Marvel event. Deadpool and Wolverine’s Gambit, played by Channing Tatum, even had a dedicated chair on set. But Wade Wilson himself was missing from the video. Despite that, many assumed Deadpool would appear in some form, especially since Deadpool & Wolverine officially brought him into the MCU. Ryan Reynolds is now stirring up excitement about Deadpool’s next big-screen role with a subtle tease on social media.
Reynolds recently posted on Instagram a photo of the Avengers logo (above), but with a twist. The logo was spray-painted with a red “anarchy A” symbol, a visual nod that fans quickly linked to Deadpool’s style. There was no caption, no direct announcement, but with Avengers: Doomsday currently in production and many cast members still unconfirmed, speculation is running high that this could signal Deadpool’s upcoming appearance. The alternative theory would be that the image relates to Marvel Rivals, a popular video game. However, using such a photo to promote a game during Doomsday’s shooting seems unlikely.
Ryan Reynolds is not officially listed in the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. But his inclusion would make sense considering the film’s strong tie to legacy X-Men characters like Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto. Gambit will appear in Doomsday after his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine. It seems odd for Gambit to jump into another major MCU movie without Deadpool also showing up.
Deadpool’s presence in Doomsday could pose a few challenges. The new Avengers film is expected to carry a PG-13 rating, while previous Deadpool movies have been rated R due to their mature content. This means Deadpool’s character would have to be toned down for Doomsday. The film is also slated to be darker and more serious, raising questions about how a character known for his wild humor and irreverence would fit in.
While nothing is confirmed, Ryan Reynolds is keeping fans hopeful that Deadpool’s MCU story is far from over. The success of Deadpool & Wolverine at the box office opened the door for the character to engage with other heroes and villains in the MCU. As production on Avengers: Doomsday continues, all eyes remain on whether the Merc with a Mouth will join Earth’s mightiest heroes in the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic saga.
