This is one of those panels that, when you explain it to people who didn’t attend San Diego Comic-Con 2025, it sounds almost too wild to believe.
Robert Kirkman’s appearance at his live panel was met by explosive fan cheers. He was alone but with a plan that might’ve been made up the moment he stepped on stage. In short, it was the kind of chaotic energy that defines true convention moments–the kind that makes them one of a kind.
Kirkman took the stage in his own fashion, standing solo in front of a packed crowd. Without hesitation, he dove straight into Invincible VS, revealing Battle Beast as the latest character joining the long line of additions for the video game.
“As if there was any question, Battle Beast will be joining the game. Go on Steam and wishlist this game. Having that attention shows people want it and really helps us as we ramp up to release.”
After joking that he had been beaten into asking people to wishlist the game, Kirkman then revealed an exclusive cover that attendees would receive for free, signed by Kirkman himself.
He then dove into the Battle Beast comic, calling it the most successful comic he’s had in the last 25 years of his career. He emphasized that issue #6 contains some wild stuff Invincible fans will love.
Kirkman announced that Invincible Season 4 is well underway and will debut March 2026, cutting to a behind-the-scenes clip showing the voice actors in their booths. One actor caught the crowd’s attention–Matthew Rhys popped up on screen.
“You may have noticed Matthew Rhys is in this video, and I’ll reveal to you… he is playing Dinosaurus.”
The room practically rattled with cheers. Kirkman explained how incredible Rhys is in the role, both as Dinosaurus and his alter ego. He went on to surprise fans by announcing that Tech Jacket and Astounding Wolf-Man would be getting their own compendiums in November.
And that’s not all, Capes is making its return. No cheers; Kirkman couldn’t help but laugh, “You probably don’t remember these characters from 2003, they came out as a short miniseries while I was working on The Walking Dead.”
Mark Englert has recolored the series, and it’ll be re-released as a six-issue miniseries. Kirkman then showed off Battle Pope, set for a 2025 release.
At this point, the show became a full-blown slideshow. Kirkman introduced Skinbreaker, a new epic fantasy he’s creating with David Finch. It will include treasury editions, large-format comics that act as an additive experience, where word balloons won’t crowd out the artwork. Exclusive copies of Skinbreaker, only for panel attendees, were revealed.
Then the screen lit up with Transformers.
“Nobody is more upset that [Daniel Warren Johnson] is leaving Transformers than I am. I love that book. I’ve been a Transformers fan for as long as I can remember. And now I’m working alongside Dan Mora, I mean, can you believe it?” The new issue is set to release this November.
Void Rivals #25 will drop in December 2025 and lead into the start of the Quintesson War, tying into the Void Rivals action figures announced at the Hasbro Pulse booth at the convention.
“It warms my cold black heart to see this. It’s the greatest thing ever. Huge props to Hasbro for doing this, it emboldens us to do more.”
The panel was chaotic; it was as Kirkman as it could possibly be. But another standout moment came when he revealed that Jada Toys will be releasing Invincible action figures. Fans had been practically begging for newer models.
Kirkman then started the Q&A, answering in his usual chaotic style, prompting cheers, laughs, and even nearly spoiling who’ll be voicing Thragg. He hinted that Thragg might appear in Season 5, as all of his lines are already recorded.
It was fun, chaotic, a great time, and one of those unforgettable moments that make Comic-Con truly one of a kind.
