On the slight chance you were unaware, the highly-anticipated new Superman film has finally arrived in theaters from filmmaker and DC Studios co-head James Gunn featuring an all-star cast of heroes and villains, top-lined by David Corenswet as the title hero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Positive word of mouth has already sent preview sales soaring at the box office. The promotion and marketing for the film has been nothing short of stunning comparable to Barbie.
Case in point, the Sesame Street social media channels posted two new clips featuring actors David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan stopping by Sesame Street for a visit with Elmo and Cookie Monster.
In the first video, Corenswet and Brosnahan teach everyone’s favorite red monster it takes more than a cape and super powers to be a hero and encourage viewers everywhere to be a hero in their own neighborhood. You can check out that video here:
In the second clip, Elmo tries on Superman’s iconic, horn-rimmed glasses to the test for the ultimate surprise fooling Cookie Monster! Of course, as the new film reveals, they are in fact hypo glasses that make Superman’s face look different in your brain when he wears them so that you don’t know who he is. As ludicrous as it sounds, it’s in fact an old concept from the Silver Age of Superman comics that Gunn discovered thanks to a suggestion from comic creator Tom King.
By now fans know the film features a new iteration of the Justice League, referred to as the Justice Gang. Though Superman never officially joins, it looks like he’s now a member of the JustNICE League. I’m guessing Super Grover’s invitation was lost in the mail. .
Interestingly enough, Superman has a past history with Sesame Street. In the early days of the beloved children’s show, Superman appeared in animated inserts using recycled footage from the The New Adventures of Superman animated series produced by Filmation.
