This new storyline will introduce a whole new corner of the Sonic the Hedgehog universe in the form of the glitzy and glamorous city of Sequin. Set during a citywide carnival, "The Stage is Set" will find Sonic and his allies caught in the middle of one of the most opulent fights of their lives, and against one another. While Sonic and Tails are on the hunt for the missing Chaos Emeralds, so too are Shadow and Rogue, and they have no problem going through their otherwise amicable competition to do so.
The Sonic editors at IDW Publishing promised in a statement that "The Stage is Set" will have both "fan favorites showing up and a new, adorable, acrobatic, totally not suspicious character that we know everyone is going to love!" The statement continued, "But it's not all fun and games - with Chaos Emeralds going missing, there's something nefarious going on... Any guesses as to who the ringmaster of this scheme could be? As always, thank you to all of the Sonic fans reading our comics. We've had a lot of fun with this new story arc, and we hope y'all do, too!"
