South Park season 27 has been delayed due to the ongoing merger between Skydance and Paramount. This merger has caused uncertainty about when the new season will debut. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, have expressed strong frustration over the situation, calling the merger a “shitshow.”
Comedy Central announced that the premiere date for the new season has been moved to Wednesday, July 23. In response, the South Park team posted a message on X criticizing the delay. The post quoted Parker and Stone saying, “This merger is a shitshow and it’s fucking up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.”

The merger between Skydance and Paramount is currently on hold as the companies work with the Federal Communications Commission to gain approval for the deal, which is worth billions of dollars. Meanwhile, Paramount+ still holds a $900 million digital rights contract for South Park that lasts for two more years, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Parker and Stone have accused Jeff Shell, the incoming president of Paramount, of interfering in their contract talks with Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix. They claim Shell is trying to influence negotiations to benefit Paramount rather than South Park. The South Park Digital Studios sent a letter demanding that Shell, Redbird, and Skydance stop interfering immediately. The letter warns that if the interference continues, they will take legal action to protect their rights and fulfill their obligations to the public.
The letter also states that Shell had no authority to ask South Park’s potential partners to change their proposals, especially when those changes would lower the value of the offers. The dispute highlights ongoing tensions as the merger process continues.
