The Spawn Universe's newest antihero is drawing comparisons to some of the biggest names in comics.

Tomorrow, June 18, marks the release of the latest Spawn Universe series from Image Comics, Bloodletter, and its titular antihero is already being compared to the likes of Catwoman, Storm, and Witchblade. Readers can get a special first look at all the horror and action to come in the pages of Bloodletter thanks to the official trailer posted to the Image Comics YouTube channel.

Bloodletter is set to follow Tasha Thornwall, a former spy and CIA operative who, after an encounter with Al Simmons over a decade ago, was forced to live on the lam, eking out whatever existence she could from the shadows while being pursued by all manner of murderous forces. Upon discovering Simmons' resurrected identity as Spawn, Tasha takes it upon herself to do anything and everything she can to take revenge for how Al ruined her life. Of course, that won't be easy considering the infernal power Simmons now wields, though that is hardly enough to make Tasha give up on her new mission.

"At its core, this story is all about synthesis," said Bloodletter co-writer Tim Seeley of the series. "For our lead, Tasha, it’s that combination of espionage and street magic that makes her an unkillable survivor in a world where guys like Spawn, Overtkill, and Violator walk. And the comic itself is a synthesis too, of Joe, Christian, and me, something totally new none of us would have concocted on our own."

One of the greatest episodes of Black Mirror is getting a tie-in graphic novel that is set to open the door to more sci-fi anthology adaptations.

Co-writer Joseph P. Illidge sang high praises for the rest of the creative team of Bloodletter, stating that "Working with my fellow brothers-in-arms—Tim and Christian—and using our magical combination of skills to show the fans the secret history of the Spawn Universe is just as wonderful and scary as it sounds. We can't wait to pull you into Tasha's world and never let go!"

"It's blood, magic, it's evil questioning itself, it's also love and redemption," added artist Christian Rosado. "Tasha took on a life of her own, and what we do as a team is narrate it, chapter after chapter. In this transgressive and dark world, there's a new character who is a privilege to draw. Joe, Tim, and I have that mission—to make her struggle known and what she has to tell us."
