‘Spider-Noir’ Posters Reveal a Gritty Set of Marvel Villains

1 day ago 4

Marketing for Spider-Noir is picking up as MGM+ and Prime Video revealed new posters showing darker reimaginings of classic Spider-Man villains. The studio dropped five character posters ahead of CCXP Mexico, which runs April 24–26 in Mexico City. Nicolas Cage headlines the noir-style series as Ben Reilly, also known as Spider-Noir. Other posters highlight Silvermane, played by Brendan Gleeson, and Cat Hardy, a spin on Black Cat, portrayed by Li Jun Li.

The remaining images focus on villains. Actor Jack Huston, known from Boardwalk Empire, appears as Flint Marko, better known as Sandman. Joe Massingill takes on a new version of Electro. Abraham Popoola’s character remains a mystery, described only as a World War I veteran “looking for an opportunity to get ahead,” according to a 2024 report by Deadline.

Sandman and Electro are among Spider-Man’s longest-running foes, first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man comics in the 1960s. On film, Sandman was played by Thomas Haden Church in Spider-Man 3, while Jamie Foxx portrayed Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Both returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home when their characters crossed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Popoola’s role has sparked debate among fans and insiders. His scarred look suggests the gangster Hammerhead, who debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #113 in 1972. Yet, his backstory could fit the Spider-Noir version of Rhino, a mob enforcer transformed by an experiment. Rhino first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #41 in 1966 and has been played by Paul Giamatti and, more recently, by Alessandro Nivola in Kraven the Hunter.

Spider-Noir is set to debut on MGM+ on May 25, followed by a global release on Prime Video on May 27, 2026. The eight-episode series will stream in both black-and-white and color. The show expands the Spider-Verse universe for television, combining old-school crime noir with superhero storytelling. It also leads a busy year for Marvel projects centered on the web-slinger, including the live-action film Spider-Man: Brand New Day releasing July 31 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 arriving on Disney+ this fall.

The rush of Spider-Man titles underscores how crowded the superhero market remains. Still, Spider-Noir stands out with its stark visuals, Oscar-winning star, and darker tone. MGM+ and Prime Video are betting fans will embrace a gritty new take on one of Marvel’s most bankable icons.
