Fans are officially just months away from the release of the twelfth and final issue of IDW Publishing's hit Star Trek: The Last Starship, and already it is looking like an issue that no fan of the franchise will want to miss. While the covers for Star Trek: The Last Starship #12 showcase a wide variety of interstellar horrors, the issue's solicit text promises that things will never be the same once it arrives.

The official solicit synopsis for Star Trek: The Last Starship #12 from IDW Publishing reads, "The final entry in the epic that has redefined the Federation. Captains Sato and Kirk have put aside their monumental differences. Zed has constructed an engineering masterpiece in the T'Galatheon Gate. All those who remain true to Starfleet's ideals have miraculously gathered in one place, and they are prepared to hunker down within the Gate's singularity to finally rebuild what they lost in The Burn... and it's all too late."
The solicit text continues, "The Emerald Chain has sniffed out the motley assemblage and is decimating them in a brutal attack. But Sato, Kirk, and the crews of the U.S.S. Omega and U.S.S. Challenger have battled to find a whisper of a chance to save their Galaxy more times than they can count. And they won't let this last hope die without a vicious fight — or a noble sacrifice."
Star Trek: The Last Starship Sees Star Trek Enter A New Era
Star Trek: The Last Starship kicked off in September 2025, and quickly became one of IDW Publishing's hottest Star Trek titles. The series takes place during The Burn, a cataclysmic event previously explored on Star Trek: Discovery, during which all dilithium in the galaxy went inert, causing the sudden and devastating detonation of every single active warp core.
While The Burn left what little remained of Starfleet and most other spacefaring organizations effectively stranded, assuming they weren't obliterated, there was still one ship that remained fully operational. Specifically, the Enterprise-Omega was hastily thrown together before being sent out into the cosmos to take on forces far beyond what it seemed capable of handling.
"The Last Starship is a new crew, a new era, and a completely different tone; our aim is to be literary, intense, innovative, and most of all, accessible," writer Jackson Lanzing previously said of the series. "We’re bringing you into the Federation’s darkest hour through the brilliant, noir-soaked lens of artist Adrián Bonilla with zero homework required."
