Star Trek Just Fixed One of The Next Generation’s Most Hated Characters

Releasing on September 23, IDW's new flagship Star Trek title comes from fan-favorite writer Christopher Cantwell (Star Trek: Defiant) with art by Dennis Menheere (Little Nightmares), and the story is already planning to take readers to new parts of the iconic sci-fi franchise's galaxy. Alexander Rozhenko, the son of Worf, who has received mixed reactions from Star Trek fans over the years, will be on board the Enterprise for its new adventures.

Worf's Son Joins New Star Trek Enterprise Adventures Arriving in September

IDW's solicit for the upcoming series reveals the Enterprise-G will be on a desperate mission beyond the known galaxy, with its crew trying to relocate the dying Avuran people. They find a perfect new home in uncharted territory known as the Epsilon Corridor, where three pristine Class-M worlds — dubbed as the Trinity — await the refugees.

With no signs of civilization — or any detectable threats — the new area appears to be exactly what the crew was hoping to find. This dream quickly becomes a nightmare, leaving Captain Seven of Nine and the rest of the crew divided as they explore Trinity more closely and discover disturbing mysteries awaiting them.

"Each world houses a different ecosystem, different physics problems, and different secrets — as if they've been curated... or quarantined," IDW teases. "But from who? Or what?"

The new Star Trek ongoing series will kick off with an arc that promises "prestige, mystery-driven, high-stakes psychological" thrills with new worlds, species, and existential threats. Seven will serve as the crew's anchor alongside Jack and Crash La Forge, with other Star Trek legends, including Alexander, also making appearances.

As for Alexander, his history has seen him raised on Earth by Worf's adoptive human parents and struggling with Klingon customs. After his early appearances, he came back into Star Trek lore years later as a young adult in Deep Space Nine, and IDW's stories have fleshed out the character even further.

Alexander Rozhenko's Return is a Chance for Redemption

IDW continues to give Alexander a chance to grow into a fan-favorite Star Trek character, despite his general reception being more mixed — and many found him to be annoying, especially during his early The Next Generation years. In 2024, IDW published a special miniseries, Sons of Star Trek, that saw Jake Sisko, Alexander, and Nog's stories intertwining when they are thrust into an alternate reality.

The miniseries was collected into a trade paperback collecting all four issues for those who want to revisit some of the character's more recent adventures before checking out the new Star Trek flagship series when it drops later this year. For now, it remains to be seen how big a part Alexander will play in the new story, but with a stacked cast of other beloved characters from Picard, it's certain to be an unforgettable ride into the unknown.
