That’s exactly what Paramount Plus, through JJ Abrams student Alex Kurtzman, has been doing with the new Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series. It’s not just a revisionist-reboot. It’s a full-on wrecking ball swung at Gene Roddenberry’s original vision. Roddenberry built Star Trek on bold male values like exploration, logic, and pushing boundaries. Now, this show turns it into a visual tantrum, a girlfriend slashing tires on your classic car because she can’t stand what you cherish.

Sci-fi author Brad Torgersen calls it a “huge, gay, glee club middle finger to everyone who liked” the franchise, blaming “theater kids” for ruining the franchise. Cadets are “required to get DEI training” in a scene where an instructor tells her students that being in the academy means “being open to the people around you” as a student is questioning his colleagues’ identities. One look at the instructor and you might be accused of “misgendering” her, as the character is played by actress Tig Notaro (who looks more like actor Adam Scott everytime I look at her).

She fits in perfectly in a DEI driven series stars a nearly all-female cast led by Holly Hunter as the captain. Not a single strong male lead in sight, unless you consider the skirt-wearing, effeminate, clearly gay Klingon as a “strong male.” I certainly don’t.

The show features an endless focus on personal feelings, group hugs, and safe spaces in space. Where’s the risk-taking that made Star Trek iconic? Where’s the space-faring heroism? This isn’t advancing the franchise. It’s sabotaging it to fit a modern political agenda. And who’s paying for this mess? You are, through your Paramount Plus streaming subscription. Is this the kind of content that INCREASES subs? It doesn’t matter because Hollywood will keep pushing this as the flops continue to pile up, ignoring audiences that just want fun stories, not lectures.

Author Helen Andrews touched on this trend in her 2025 piece, “The Great Feminization.” In it she nails how women have been flooding professions like journalism, law, and now entertainment and are flipping priorities. Empathy trumps rationality. Safety beats adventure. Cohesion crushes competition. Starfleet Academy does the same to sci-fi. It prioritizes feminine group dynamics over the gutsy individualism that defined the original series. Filmmaker Roger Avery called it out on a recent episode of Film Threat, confirming the problem with Starfleet Academy boiling down to too many female executives.

Avary theorizes that the current generation of executives, many of whom are female, are trying to “correct” the values and stories that Generation X loved, and suggested this led to a rejiggering of iconic franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek to fit modern sensibilities, often at the expense of the original narratives. He’s not wrong.
And that’s exactly what happened to Alien: Earth.

When institutions tip female, suddenly everything changes. Medical schools hit majority female in 2019. The New York Times staff did too. Now entertainment follows suit. Women set the tone, even if men run the studios. Result? Shows like this one undermine what worked. Men built Star Trek into a cultural giant by celebrating human potential through logic and discovery. But under feminization, it’s all about feelings and consensus. No wonder viewership for modern Star Trek shows lags. Fans tune out when the captain cries more than she commands.

It’s destruction of treasures we built over decades.
Maybe it really is time to just let the Star Trek brand die, or at the very least, take an extended vacation. A five-year mission to oblivion, for example.

These new gatekeepers hate the old values, so they burn it all down. Then they mock and insult the OG fans who have complaints. It’s like a spoiled child grabbing your action figures and gleefully force your childhood heroes and villains to make out. Fans end up with the wreckage, staring at a franchise gutted by insiders who never got the point. If you want to fight back, you have to boycott this trash. Support creators who honor the originals, and spurn these studios who obviously hate their audience.
Star Trek deserves better than these tantrums in space.
