Non-canonical humor books using established Marvel characters can be great (like the classic all-humor issue of What If?) or terrible (like nearly all of these types of experiments).

Happy to say: Strange Tales is not just a swing and hit, it’s a home run.
The talent included A-list indie creators like Paul Pope, Becky Cloonan, Matt Kindt, Peter Bagge, Nick Bertozzi, and many others.

Not much to say about the specific tales themselves, but I’ll just note a few of my favorites.

Like Paul Pope’s wonderfully cute story about poor Lockheed who saves the world and stuff but really just wants to be able to operate a can opener so he can eat.

And Namor also fascinated by food.

I also really enjoyed Jonny Ryan’s ‘Marvel’s Most Embarrassing Moments.’ Jonny Ryan’s stuff was some of the best in the series.

Another one from Jonny Ryan.
