Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios announced today that "Superman" has soared to unprecedented heights on HBO Max, drawing more than 13 million views in its first ten days of streaming. The film's debut marks the platform's most successful launch since "Barbie" premiered in 2023, setting a new benchmark for HBO Max's pay-one film releases.
The streaming release on September 19 not only captured massive viewership for the new film but also reignited audience interest across the Superman legacy catalogue. In the week of September 15th - 21st, the documentary "Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story" experienced a staggering 670 percent increase in streams compared to the prior week, while Richard Donner's "Superman: The Movie" saw an increase of 155 percent. Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns" rose by 120 percent, and Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" climbed by 40 percent, underscoring the renewed appetite for Superman stories across generations.
Directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, "Superman" is the cornerstone of DC Studios' reimagined slate and continues to perform strongly following its global theatrical release. The response on HBO Max further demonstrates the enduring power of the Man of Steel and the resonance of his story with new and returning fans alike.
According to a Warner Bros. spokesperson, the film's record-setting performance reflects not only the creative achievement of Gunn and his cast but also the timeless cultural impact of Superman. With upcoming DC Studios projects such as Man of Tomorrow already in development, the momentum surrounding Superman signals a powerful beginning for the next era of the DC Universe.
