IDW Publishing is bringing Tales of the TMNT, the Paramount+ spin-off of the 2023 movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, to comics this October. The six-issue series will feature two three-part stories, respectively written by Mikey Levitt and Andrew Joustra, and both with art by Louie Joyce (Godzilla: Skate or Die). It will mark the first time the Mutant Mayhem universe has appeared in the pages of a comic, and it will introduce classic TMNT characters into its world.

Levitt and Joustra are no strangers to the turtles: the former worked as a showrunner’s assistant and script coordinator on the Tales of the TMNT cartoon, while Joustra was a script and recording coordinator on Mutant Mayhem itself, and will serve in a similar role on its untitled sequel, as well as the upcoming short TMNT: Chrome Alone 2 – Lost in New Jersey. This marks Joustra’s comic book debut, while Levitt’s previous credits include Papercutz’s Loud House comics.

Levitt states, “TMNT comics are so iconic, so to have this opportunity to create a new iteration is a dream come true. Now having written for the show and comics, there are so many exciting paths within this world we can send the characters, and I think the fans will love where we go this time! I don’t want to reveal too much, but if you’re a fan of the robot characters throughout Turtles’ history, you may want to buy yourself a copy when these come out! One more thing I’ll tease: not every villain we’ve said goodbye to is truly gone…”

Joustra adds, “I’m beyond thrilled and honored to be going on a new adventure with the Turtles. We’ve been given the unique opportunity to further explore this iteration of the TMNT and introduce them to a new spin on some familiar faces. It has particularly been a dream come true for me to reimagine my favorite TMNT character, the Fugitoid, for these issues and to tell a surprisingly personal story with him. I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just ZAY I’ve had a TON of fun working on this project and leave it at that. Cowabunga!”

Joyce weighed in, describing himself as lifelong TMNT fan, and this project as “an absolute dream.” He elaborates, “The style and aesthetic of this latest generation of Turtles is so unique and fun! I’m having a blast exploring and expanding on it through my own art and storytelling. Humour, heart, action! It’s all happening on these pages, in that perfect TMNT way.”

Tales of the TMNT #1 (of 6) will be released on October 15. The Mutant Mayhem universe will continue to expand elsewhere too, with the second season of the show itself expected to be released on Paramount+, and TMNT: Chrome Alone 2 – Lost in New Jersey releasing in theaters when The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants (which it’s attached to) arrives on December 19, 2025. Last but not least, the Mutant Mayhem sequel, which will reimagine the Shredder for the turtles’ brand new, high school-centric setting, will arrive on the big screen on September 17, 2027.
