‘The Batman Part II’ Finally Moves Forward – We’ve Lost Count of the Delays

1 day ago 5

The Batman Part II has moved into pre-production, bringing the long-awaited sequel closer to reality. Director Matt Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin recently completed the script, which paves the way for the film’s January 1, 2026 start date at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in London. This studio is known for handling major projects like the Harry Potter films and will provide the sets and soundstages needed to recreate Gotham City’s gritty atmosphere.

Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne/Batman, despite his busy schedule with other high-profile films such as Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three. The movie will also bring back key cast members including Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. Zoë Kravitz is expected to reprise her role as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and Barry Keoghan is likely to return as the Joker.

The Batman Part II faced multiple delays and rumors of cancellation after its original release date was pushed from October 2025 to October 2026, and then to October 1, 2027. This sequel arrives almost six years after the first film debuted in March 2022. The initial movie was a financial success, earning over $772 million worldwide, and received strong critical reviews, which warranted a sequel. DC Studios co-head James Gunn has read the new script and shared a positive but brief comment on the upcoming story.

Pre-production is currently intensifying in London, with crews being hired across departments such as production design, stunts, costumes, and visual effects. The story reportedly explores Gotham’s recovery from the previous movie’s chaos, focusing on societal issues and Batman’s challenges in a more complex world.

Fans can now expect filming to begin smoothly in early 2026, setting a clear path toward the October 2027 release date. Reeves’ vision continues with this film, which is part of his Batman “Epic Crime Saga,” a separate continuity from the broader DC Universe. The anticipation builds as the franchise works toward delivering another installment of Gotham’s dark and atmospheric narrative.

The sequel is currently on the October 2027 calendar schedule. That is, of course, subject to change.
