The epic confrontation between the Spider-Verse and Venomverse has finally arrived, and there is no telling which side will come out on top.

A new preview of Marvel Comics' Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse #1 finds Peter Parker and Eddie Brock each ruminating on their respective lives. As different as they have been, the parallels between the paths that Peter and Eddie have walked are unmistakable, all the way up through their respective battles against seemingly insurmountable forces like Knull and the Inheritors. Unfortunately, the latest of these encounters has pitted the two fan-favorites against one another, and no matter who wins, an entire swathe of the Multiverse is bound to lose.

The war between the Spider-Verse and Venomverse has been building up for months now. Back in March, "The Web-Heart" from Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood #1 introduced the literal beating, sentient heart of the Spider-Verse itself. At the time, the Web-Heart revealed that it had long foreseen the eventual battle between the champions of the Spider-Verse and those of the Venomverse, though not the details of why that battle was set to take place. As such, the Web-Heart had amassed its own crack team of Spider Totems to defend it when the time came.

This development was met in kind in the pages of Venomverse: Fresh Brains #1, which introduced the Web-Heart's symbiote counterpart, the Multiversal Symbiote Hive Mind. While the Venomverse doesn't have the same level of depth as the Spider-Verse, it is no less full of its own variants of fans' favorite symbiote superhero. Like the Web-Heart, the Multiversal Symbiote Hive Mind set out to select seven different Venom variants to stand on the front lines against the Spider-Verse's own champions, including a few rarely seen additions to the wider Multiverse.

Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics' most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man's most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character's lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O'Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.

Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he's changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
