The X-Men and The Fantastic Four Officially Cross Over Before Next Avengers Movie

It is going to be the hottest winter on record, that is if Avengers: Doomsday has anything to do with it, and it will. The Russo Brothers are working to deliver what Marvel Studios believes will be the most unforgettable cinematic experience in MCU history, and it's largely predicated on decisions like the return of the original X-Men and the inclusion of the Fantastic Four.

That said, Marvel Comics is asking the simple and valid question, "Why wait?"

As X-Men '97 dominates streaming with the premiere of Season 2 on Disney+, Marvel Comics has decided to cook up a crossover between the X-Men and Fantastic Four in their DNX series as the two factions attempt to contend with a "storyline that promises a lot of unfathomable changes across mutantdom" when their respective issues are unleashed this Fall.

X-Men, Fantastic Four Meet Before Avengers: Doomsday

Per the official synopsis: "This October, things go from bad to worse for the X-Men and the Fantastic Four in their battle against the villainous group 3K! While Cyclops' team engages 3K above the skies of Philadelphia to prevent the release of the X-Virus and the emergence of a dark future, the Fantastic Four have mysteriously forgotten their own identities (and how their powers work!) while on their own quest to save the master of magnetism, Magneto."

It continued: "As if that's not enough trouble, the X-Men's base in Alaska comes under attack with John Greycrow left alone to defend it and Psylocke stalks a mysterious monster on a dangerous solo mission that promises to reveal dark secrets. It's all taking place across new issues of DNX, FANTASTIC FOUR and X-MEN this October."

That is admittedly something to get excited about, and especially knowing the direction (read: shock and awe) Marvel is intending for the DNX series — something they weren't exactly coy about when the run was announced.

Psylocke, X-Men Looking to Own the 2026 Calendar Year

Psylocke, along with several others, have burst onto center stage this summer, thanks to X-Men '97.

Her debut in X-Force alongside Cable, Sunspot, Archangel and an upgraded Jubilee, adds to what Marvel has planned for her in DNX and a potential appearance in Avengers: Doomsday to make for her best year yet.

"In all the high drama and high action of DNX, we're also taking the time to zoom in on more personal moments, finding time to explore slightly smaller stories taking place at the same time as the big event," said MacKay. "X-MEN #39 sees John Greycrow, resolutely NOT an X-Man, having to step up, while #40 explores Psylocke's attitudes towards life and death- and when to make the choice between them. These both tie into the larger themes of the DNX event and move forward story threads that have been brewing for some time!"

Ryan North goes a step further in explaining the crossover: "This is a really fun conclusion to a two-parter which, while obviously acting as an important part of DNX, also stands on its own as a Fantastic Four story for everyone else. I get to bring the FF to some places they don't normally go – both physically and emotionally – while at the same time saving the X-Men and the world."

The two superhero factions are promised to meet in December when Avengers: Doomsday arrives but, for avid Marvel Comics readers, there's simply no need to wait that long.
