The next big threat to mutantkind is one of their own, and none of the X-Men are ready for her.

A preview for Uncanny X-Men #17 from Marvel Comics finds the members of the eponymous team discussing the latest piece of mainstream mutant media with their allies all around the country. As it turns out, there is a new horror sensation about to tear her way across the silver screen in the form of Mutina. Unfortunately, there is no telling how much damage Mutina's upcoming film will do to the reputation of mutants everywhere, nor how long it will be before she slashes her way out of the cinema and into the real world.

While little is known about Mutina as of now, it is clear that she is going to become a major player as her story in the pages of Uncanny X-Men unfolds. Critically acclaimed writer and series scribe Gail Simone has been vocal on social media about her love of and excitement for the character. Simone recently showcased the variant cover art for Uncanny X-Men #17 by Ejikure on her social media, which features Mutina front and center while wielding a pair of unique hook swords.

One of the X-Men's Most Underrated Members Just Embraced His Role as Mutantkind's Violent New Savior

One of Marvel's most unexpected mutant powerhouses has finally embraced his new purpose and the glorious legacy he has been given.

Mutina is just the latest in a long line of truly horrifying enemies that the eponymous heroes of Uncanny X-Men have faced alongside their young mutant wards known as the Outliers. Since the series began, the Outliers have been hounded by monstrous foes such as Sarah Gaunt, better known as the Hag. Following their escape from Sarah's clutches, the Uncanny X-Men and Outliers have been forced to fight for their lives against rabid Bloodhound Sentinels, not to mention the legions of dark, demonic forces that lurked around and within the extradimensional gateway known as the Dark Artery.
