Thor #601-602 (2009)

At the end of last issue, Thor’s hammer broke and he was exiled. Now, he and Don Blake have to figure out what to do. They switch bodies and Don’s cane is also in pieces.

Blake tries duct tape.

Loki tells Thor that she is going to abandon the mortal form that also hosts Sif, and the human might die as a result. If Thor’s hammer were intact, it might have the power to bring forth Sif’s immortal form–as he did for the other Asgardian Gods at the beginning of JMS’s (fantastic) run on this title.

Doctor Strange says he can help restore the hammer, but it will mean that his life will then be bound to Mjilnor.

It all works, and Sif is returned.

Also in last issue, Dr. Doom offered to host Asgard, and now, Balder accepts the offer. Loki and Doom conspire vaguely. It’s really not clear what they’re up to, but Heimdall says “death” is coming.

Finally, Bill Cobb’s love affair with Kelda also develops further.

I really like this storyline–it does a good job of portraying the culture-mixing of Gods and humans, which is the central theme of this run.
