Ultimate Spider-Man Just Killed a Marvel Mainstay

1 month ago 7

The following contains major spoilers for Ultimate Spider-Man #14, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

One of the most important heroes in Marvel Comics' new Ultimate Universe just lost his life, and there was nothing Spider-Man could do to save him.

Ultimate Spider-Man #14 finds Peter Parker and Harry Osborn trekking through the Savage Land in the hopes of finding some way to escape before the murderous Kraven the Hunter can catch up with them. Of course, there was never a chance that the heroes would outpace their pursuer, although they are more than capable of standing their ground against him. At least, that is until Kraven takes aim at a wounded Green Goblin, completely averting Peter's Spider-Sense and bringing Harry's life to a tragic end all at the same time.

Sergei Kravinoff, better known as Kraven the Hunter, is one of the oldest and most infamous villains in Spider-Man's rogues gallery, with his first appearance taking place in 1964's Amazing Spider-Man #15. Much like the original, the Kraven of the Ultimate Universe's Earth-6160 reality is a menacing, relentless hunter, whose bloodlust and resilience have defined his bloodline for generations. Also like the original, the Ultimate Kraven is a member of his world's Sinister Six, who in this reality are commanded by Wilson Fisk, each keeping watch over a different borough in New York City.

As a member of the Sinister Six, Marvel's Ultimate Kraven the Hunter stands as the ultimate crime lord in Staten Island, operating out of a local zoo where he keeps his various trophies on full display for a fearful public. When Black Cat was defeated outright and Mister Negative was forced to retreat during their own encounters with Spider-Man, the other members of the Sinister Six took it upon themselves to carry out calculated attacks against the Wall-Crawler. It was Kraven who not only took out Spider-Man, but the Green Goblin as well, both of whom he brought to the Subterranean Savage Land to be hunted in proper fashion.

Marvel's Most Powerful Hero Is Returning

One of the most iconic heroes in the history of Marvel Comics has just stepped into a fight that spans time, space, and even the Multiverse.

The Harry Osborn of the current Ultimate Universe has been operating under the moniker of the Green Goblin from the outset of the ongoing Ultimate Spider-Man series. After his father, Norman Osborn, was killed in an attack seemingly perpetrated by Tony Stark, Harry inherited his family's company and embarked upon his career as a superhero. Not long afterward, Harry crossed paths with Spider-Man, who had only recently received his iconic power. Together, the two struck out against Fisk and the Sinister Six, relying on their ally Otto Octavius to provide technical assistance wherever they need it.
